Leonid Keller
Leonid Keller’s artistic practice begins with the exploration of images deeply embedded in our collective visual memory. They refer both to historical imagery of political events and societal structures, as well as to everyday symbols that convey a sense of cultural identity. The Berlin-based artist duo, consisting of Julia Ossko and Eugen Schulz, combines these visual elements into multilayered installations.
For their solo presentation From the Archives at paper positions berlin 2025, Leonid Keller showcase a selection of recent paper collages, graphite drawings, and screen prints that draw on a wide range of imagery sourced from an archive of found photographs, international magazines, and illustrated books that the artists have compiled over many years. From the Archives not only references the visual artifacts that underpin their artistic process, but also poses a fundamental question: What finds its way into a society’s archive – and what is forgotten?
Through the combination and reinterpretation of their source material, Leonid Keller create a space in which the interplay between image perception and cultural identity becomes perceptible and open to critical reflection.
